Q & A

Do I need to book or can I just come along?

Space is limited to 8 people maximum so we ask that you book in advance.  Please only book if you are committed to coming and bring your payment for the half term course to your first session (or each week for one off sessions like Clay and Wine). We accept cash or cheques and can take payment by bank transfer, but do not take cards, sorry. Please contact us to book.

If you need to cancel we would appreciate it if you could let us know, but are unable to give refunds except for in very exceptional circumstances.

Where do I park?

There is free on street parking on The Avenue, although it can get busy. You are also welcome to park on or block our drive if there is space. There is also a bus stop nearby.

What do I wear?

Aprons are available, but please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty and closed toe shoes. For safety reasons please don’t wear, or allow your children to wear any dangly jewellery. You may also wish to remove rings during the session.

Do I need to bring anything?

No, apart from your payment.  At Clay and Wine sessions for adults, a glass of wine (or soft drink) will be provided at the end.

How do I collect my finished pieces?

Please put your full name and date underneath every piece you would like to be fired in the kiln. Firing in the kiln takes up time and resources so let us know if you don’t want to fire everything. Anything not named and dated at the end of the session will be recycled.  Please note clay cannot be recycled once it has been fired. You will be informed when your work is ready for you to glaze or collect at a later session, but if you do not have any plans to attend a future session, please just let us know and we would be happy to glaze your pieces for a small fee or to arrange another time for you to collect your work. Please note storage and drying space in the studio is very limited. Any work not collected after 3 months will be given away or destroyed.

Can I bring a pre-schooler to Clayshape?

You are welcome to accompany a 3 or 4 year old to a Family Clay Session at the weekend, but we are unable to have any children who are not yet at school in the After School Clay Clubs, as this would require additional supervision and the projects are aimed at slightly older children. Parents of children who attend a session unaccompanied by an adult are asked to fill in a registration form before the start of their first session.

Can you help me to make a special project?

Sure, there are a few options. Please give me (Nicky) a call on 07595 742851 to discuss which would be best for you. Depending on the project, your budget, and how much help you require, you may be able to work on it in Clay & Wine sessions, or you may prefer to book the studio privately, or even commission me to create it for you!  Whether you are dreaming of bespoke tiles for your kitchen, or a large ceramic snail, please get in touch!

Can I hire Clayshape for a small group?

Yes, please give me a call on 07595 742851 for rates and availability. Prices depend on when you wish to hire it, for how long and how many Clayshape helpers are needed to facilitate. The studio is perfect for small, creative birthday parties and corporate team-building sessions. Please note our maximum for all sessions is 8 people.
